My Story
A turning point that I had in my life was when I was in eighth grade, and my AVID teacher gave the class a project to search for a career you would want in the future. That entire year of AVID was dedicated to open our eyes on all the possible careers and colleges we could get into. I hadn’t put much thought of what I wanted to do when I got older and back then I wasn’t thinking of college or if even wanted to go. My parents didn’t go to college and to me they seemed to be doing great financially, so I could do the same and have no problems. That also meant that I wasn’t interested in researching this subject, so initially I didn’t take it seriously.
We first started the project, by taking a personality test, to see what general profession we would prefer. After I finished, the test said that I should look into Medical professions. As I looked into many different jobs, it caught my attention, but most specifically I was really intrigued in researching surgeons. They have to take a lot of science and math classes, help people who are injured, and make a lot of money, for all of these reasons is why I want to become a surgeon. Once I got into high school I worked hard to keep my GPA high, volunteer around my community, and get into a few extracurricular activities. Doing all of these things will assure me in getting into a good college, so I can receive my bachelors degree in Biomedical Science. Once I get my bachelors, I want to go straight to Medical School. I don’t know in what area of surgery I want to study but I still a few years to figure that out. Now that I look back, I am grateful that we had that project; essentially without it I wouldn’t have been as motivated to try my hardest in school, because I wouldn’t have had a goal to work towards.
